Richard Symonds - Send, Surrey
THE ARTIST:
Richard was born in 1969 in Surrey, England. On leaving school, he travelled and worked extensively around the Middle East and North America for the military before returning to his Surrey home to develop his skills in a completely different field, art and conservation.

There followed a string of commissions including Harley-Davidson UK, the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the BBC. It was his continuous passion and love for wildlife that led him on to become a wildlife artist. Following a lifetime dream of travelling to Africa to paint animals in their natural habitat, Richard soon found himself on Safari in Kenya's Masai Mara and Amboseli National parks.

Inspired by all that he had seen, it was not long before his work was being exhibited around London and the Home Counties, including one man exhibitions, among others, at Harrods of Knightsbridge, SBC Warburg Dillon and Read and auctions in and around the London area. This also includes a recent charity auction at Christies, South Kensington, for the David Shepherd Conservation Foundation where some of the world's leading wildlife artists donated their work to help raise urgently needed funds for the protection of the elephant, rhino and tiger.

Richard's passion and commitment to wildlife is vividly illustrated in his work, and the artist has a rare ability to capture the true essence of each animal he paints.

"The beautiful, fascinating and always individual qualities of animals are remarkably and sensitively captured by Richard in his expressive paintings."

Virginia McKenna (Actress, author & founder of the "Born Free Foundation.")

"In the increasingly competitive field of wildlife art, there are nevertheless those few whose talent is outstanding. Richard undoubtedly has a bright future."

David Shepherd (Artist & conservationist) O.B.E , F.R.S.A , F.R.G.S.
