You can say whatever you will about your background, training, influences and technique as illustrated by an abbreviated example from one artist:

The structure of his current work plays on the two dimensional nature of painting. 'Lifting' the canvas from its stretcher reveals the space behind. The 'flat' nature of the floating canvas and the illusion of traditional picture space are made explicit. In terms of content this offers possibilities in contrasting the real and the imagined.
